BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Bravo, 8:00 p.m. ET

The first new edition of Inside the Actors Studio this new season focuses on Jake Gyllenhaal, whose films include Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain. And it ought to instill some sibling rivalry, because sister Maggie, whose films include Donnie Darko and Secretary, hasn’t been a guest of Lipton’s. Yet.

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

TCM’s month-long salute to Kim Novak continues tonight, and prime time begins with her most enchanting film roles – literally. In this 1958 comedy, she plays a witch who casts a spell to catch the eye of James Stewart, who previously was bedazzled by her in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. When she holds that cat under her face to gaze into his eyes, it’s like watching four cat eyes at once – what a strange feline! All that, and co-star Ernie Kovacs, too.

CBS, 10:00 p.m. ET

Part 2 of 2. Tonight’s repeat episode puts the “More” in Moriarty, as Sherlock and Watson discover the identity behind the sleuth’s mysterious arch-enemy. They’re surprised by what they find – as should anyone who’s read the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories.

NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

What a month it’s been for Valerie Harper. Despite her grim medical diagnosis, she’s been making the rounds and stepping back into the spotlight in a very visible way. First she guest-starred on an episode of TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, along with Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White and Georgia Engel, all of them beloved veterans of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Then, earlier this week, she made her emotional debut as one of the contestants on this latest round of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. And tonight, she’s the subject of a prime-time NBC profile by former Today co-host Meredith Vieira.

Comedy Central, 11:00 p.m. ET

Like father, like daughter. Former President Bill Clinton has visited Jon Stewart many times on The Daily Show to discuss his pet projects and joke around a bit with this show’s host – and tonight, his daughter, Chelsea Clinton, does the same.
