There were plenty more upsets in yesterday’s round of 16 games, but the astounding finish to the late game between No. 6 seed Texas and No. 11 seed Northern Iowa beat anything else this year – and maybe any other. Texas ties the game with a layup with less than three seconds left, and Northern Iowa, after a quick in-bounds pass to UNI’s Paul Jesperson, watched time run out, and the buzzer sound, just after Jesperson launched a Hail Mary shot from beyond half court. It floated forever on a rainbow arc, smacked into the backboard and went in – giving Northern Iowa the upset victory, rather than a period of overtime. Unbelievable. Unforgettable.
