BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

CBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

The game of musical chairs – or, at least, musical roommates – continues tonight. And tonight’s move may be the most unlikely of all: Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is talking about settling down, and moving in with someone. And it’s Quinn (Becki Newton), who’s only been around for a short while. Those of us who enjoyed Ugly Betty, though, already have been delighted by Newton for years.)

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

The Battle Rounds continue tonight, and the action isn’t confined to what’s inside the ring. It’s interesting, so far, how often some of the mentors have given advice that seems to conflict with the established practices of the star judges and team leaders. And, for that matter, how the initial airings of contestants have made some battles really tough ones, and others more like musical slam dunks. Each judge, I suspect, is stacking his or her own deck, selecting songs and duets to get just the right final contestants.

ABC Family, 8:00 p.m. ET

SEASON FINALE: Maybe this doesn’t rank any higher on the seismic TV scale than, say, learning the identity of Gossip Girl – but maybe it doesn’t rank any lower, either. On tonight’s second-season finale, set as a costume party, the identity of the scheming, hidden-in-the-shadows “A” is finally, maybe even literally, unmasked.

BBC America, 8:00 p.m. ET

Perhaps you know him as Michael in the star-crossed HBO series Luck. More probably, you may know him as Dumbledore in the most recent Harry Potter films. But a few of us here at TV WORTH WATCHING will always know him, first and foremost, as The Singing Detective himself – Michael Gambon. However, diehard fans of this series, which includes celebrity visits to give them a chance behind the wheel and around the test track – may know Gambon as a repeat visitor. His first lap around the Top Gear track was anything but impressive – more like Dumb and Dumbledore. But this second visit, in this repeat from several years later, gave him a chance to redeem himself. Does he? That’s what the viewing part is for…

NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight is stage mother night, and what a piece of guest casting. Bernadette Peters guest stars as the Broadway diva mother of Ivy (Megan Hilty), who has enough problems maintaining the spotlight at the Marilyn: The Musical rehearsals as it is. And does Peters get to sing -- a Sondheim lyric, yet -- as part of tonight's plot? Let’s just say, in this story about mother-daughter show-biz performers, it might be Rose’s turn.
