BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

CW, 8:00 p.m. ET

The gang hunts down another superpower-endowed adversary this week – and this week, the powerful guy, played by Greg Finley, goes by the name of Girder. I’m guessing he’s strong.

PBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guests, discovering things about their family lineage, tend toward the comic. Tina Fey is one guest subject, and David Sedaris is another. One of the things Sedaris is bound to confront is that he has a very funny sister, named Amy – but I’m pretty sure he knows that already.

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

The best picture Oscar-winner of 1942 was a simple wartime romance that, for several generations, rose to, and stayed at, the top of the pile of treasured black-and-white romantic dramas. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, as well as Claude Rains, deserved every accolade they received. My question, though, is whether that reputation will be embraced and carried forward by the current generation of young film fans? If so, this is a great place to start – no commercial interruptions, no editing, and nobody two rows away with a lit-up cellphone.

ABC, 9:00 p.m. ET

The pawns, as well as the more valuable players, keep moving on this show’s chess board, shifting from one place to another and putting themselves into more and more danger. And not only that, but on occasion, they even change sides – which makes it a very unpredictable, and complicated, game to watch. Tonight, Hayley Atwell returns as Agent Peggy Carter – prior to her placement in January as the star of Marvel’s latest spinoff series.

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s installment ended with the stunner of a plot development we’ve been awaiting, with equal parts anticipation and nervousness, all season. Out of the mouths of babes – specifically, out of the mouth of his own young elder son – Jax (Charlie Hunnam) learns that the real murderer of Jax’s wife was… Jax’s mother (Katey Sagal). Jax spends the entire night, sitting in the dark by his son’s bed, trying to decide whether that accusation could possibly be true. And when the dawn comes, so does the start of an epic, oedipal quest for Jax to seek out the truth. And then what?

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
