BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

Horror of horrors! It’s “Treehouse of Horror XXXI,” which means The Simpsons is back, for the 31st time since 1990, to present a trilogy of outlandish and usually spooky tales that break all the show’s usual conventions. It’s all in good Halloween fun, so anything can happen – as in this new installment, when Marge wears not a Halloween mask, but a COVID one…

Fox Sports 1, 8:00 p.m. ET

In the American League Championship Series, the Tampa Bay Rays jumped to an early lead. But the Houston Astros bounced back, tying the AL pennant series at three games apiece before the Rays prevailed in last night’s deciding Game 7. Tonight, in the National League Championship Series, they’re also playing a deciding Game 7, after the Los Angeles Dodgers came back to even the series at 3-3 against the previously dominant Atlanta Braves. Whichever team wins tonight faces the Rays in Tuesday’s 2020 World Series.

Showtime, 8:00 p.m. ET

The dueling town halls, and their aftermath, are bound to be at the heart of this week’s show. Fasten your seat belts…

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

Tonight: The Season 1 finale…

FX, 9:00 p.m. ET

Here’s another Sunday night series that’s delivered surprises and quality each week, and been just as generous about showcasing different characters. That’s nothing new for Fargo executive producer Noah Hawley – you could say the same for all three previous stand-alone miniseries seasons of this extended anthology drama series – but my, this one’s fun to watch.

Showtime, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s third episode in this documentary series about the pioneering Los Angeles comedy club is called “The Wild Bunch,” and takes a deep dive into the 1980s – the era of, among other wild and crazy comics, Sam Kinison.
