BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Various Networks, 12:00 p.m. ET

The first-round games are all over the place today, the first full day of action for the 2016 NCAA basketball tournament. CBS arrives first, broadcasting its four Thursday games beginning at noon ET. TruTV has two games beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET, and another two beginning at 7 p.m. ET. TNT shows four games consecutively, beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET, and TBS does the same, beginning at 2 p.m. ET. That’s 16 games today, including two top seeds facing two No. 16s. On TNT at 4 p.m. ET, the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks face the No. 16 Austin Peay Governors. Then, on TruTV at 7:20 p.m. ET, the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels face the No. 16 Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Since the bracket expanded to 64 teams in 1985, no team ranked No. 16 has beaten a No. 1 team in this tournament – but in sports, games are played because the unexpected can happen under the right, or wrong, circumstances. Just saying…

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

Tonight, the remaining six competitors get to sing two songs apiece – both solos this time, rather than a solo and a duet – before facing the music after performing the music. Then it’s whittled down to the Top 5.

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

Jules Hope is in prison – but hopes to get out this week, thanks to a plan that has one of the prison officers coerced into helping Jules escape.

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

In tonight’s new episode, Chip is in Paris – still not speaking the language, still trying to ply his clown trade, and getting in trouble with the French police when he attempts to do so without a street permit. I suppose, since he’s in Paris, he’ll rue the day…

IFC, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s new episode features a sketch called “Lance Is Smart” – because, suddenly, he starts wearing glasses, which seems to change everything.
