BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

TNT, 10:48 a.m. ET

With a new chapter in the Star Wars saga invading theaters, TNT is using the occasion to repeat the first six films in the canon, now relabeled and consistently numbered episodes I through VI. (The original Star Wars movie from 1977, for example, is now known as Episode IV: A New Hope, while the 2015 Star Wars release, The Force Awakens, is considered the start of a new sequel trilogy, and is numbered Episode VII.) The first VI shows are televised today by TNT, starting at 10:48 a.m. ET with 1999’s Episode I: The Phantom Menace, starring Natalie Portman (pictured). By the time 1983’s Return of the Jedi is over, it’ll be 4:28 a.m. ET Sunday morning. The entire movie saga takes 18 hours to watch. If you’re married, get permission before committing to such a mammoth binge viewing venture, because marriages have broken up over less. And if that happens anyway, as a result of watching all six Star Wars films, all I have to say is: May divorce be with you.

AMC, 9:00 a.m. ET

This 1984 version of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic is one of my favorites. I don’t know about your image of a perfect Ebenezer Scrooge, but George C. Scott, who stars in this CBS telemovie, is mine  – supremely crabby in the early scenes, increasingly tender in the middle ones, and gloriously giddy at the end.

Starz!, 9:00 p.m. ET

Don Cheadle stars as avant garde musician Miles Davis, a trumpeter, bandleader and composer whose forays in and beyond jazz were influential, inspirational, and sometimes inscrutable. His Bitches Brew double album came out in 1970, when I was a teenager – and I was in my 30s before I began to absorb it with anything other than a mixture of awe and confusion. For this movie, Cheadle not only stars as Miles, but directs the film, and co-wrote the screenplay.

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guests, on this new edition, include Carrie Fisher – and if anyone’s going to get the Star Wars princess to talk even more freely than she does in her new memoir, The Princess Diarist, it’s Graham.

AMC, 10:30 p.m. ET

This 1954 holiday film stars Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye as a song-and-dance duo who become romantically involved with a sister act, and team with them to help save a Vermont inn that’s otherwise on the way out. The ladies are played by Vera-Ellen and George Clooney’s aunt, Rosemary Clooney.

NBC, 11:29 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guest host is Casey Affleck, currently showcased in a breakout role in the movie Manchester by the Sea. Musical guest: Chance the Rapper.

Manusia sampah sejati, memangsa orang-orang tak berdosa hanya untuk mengisi kantong mereka yang serakah. Sungguh memalukan.
