SEASON PREMIERE: This is the Season 18 premiere of Bill Maher’s live, live-wire show. It’s the first time in a long while he’s been able to comment on current events – and he’s returning at a time when the current has amped up from 110 to 220 volts. His show’s guest bookers haven’t wasted their time off: The opening guest for this 2020 opener is Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who’s been quite busy while Maher has been on break. David Bianculli has been a TV critic since 1975, including a 14-year stint at the New York Daily News, and sees no reason to stop now. Currently, he's TV critic for NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and is an occasional substitute host for that show. He's also an author and teaches TV and film history at New Jersey's Rowan University. His 2009 Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour', has been purchased for film rights.
