MASTERPIECE MYSTERY!: “WALLANDER III”

Tonight’s new episode, The Dogs of Riga, has Wallander (Kenneth Branagh) traveling to the Latvian capital, as he investigates the case of two dead Latvians whose charred bodies were carried by the current into Sweden.

BORDWALK EMPIRE

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: Time jumps ahead to 1923, as Nucky (Steve Buscemi) rings in the new year, but with at least as much apprehension as celebration. SERIES FINALE: I agree with those critics who suggest that this series has gone on for a few seasons too long — but for providing a weekly showcase for the sparkling, estimable talents of Mary-Louise Parker (as well as the already transplanted and less adeptly used Justin Kirk, on NBC’s Animal Practice), I’ll keep watching to the end. Which is tonight, in an expanded one-hour finale that returns Parker’s Nancy to the suburbs from which she came.
