SEASON FINALE: Last year, our geek gang’s precious status quo was threatened when one of them was given the opportunity to take an extended voyage into space. This year, the season ends with another of them being offered a chance to take a long, remote trip: on a research vessel. And this time, it’s Leonard (Johnny Galecki), who’s just, at long last, getting into a comfortable relationship with Penny (Kaley Cuoco).
Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET
SEASON FINALE: Part 2 of 2. By the time this bloated two-hour Season 12 finale is over, viewers will know whether Candice Glover or Kree Harrison will take home this year’s Idol crown. We won’t know for a few months, though, which, if any, of the judges from tonight’s show will return. Randy Jackson is stepping down, producers are talking about returning it to a three-judge format, and there’s no way the toxic teaming of Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey will be repeated next year. Keith Urban is nice but negligible – so is it any wonder there’s already been talk about Jennifer Lopez maybe coming back?
NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET
Before tonight’s final episode of The Office, NBC presents this retrospective one-hour salute. I’ll be watching, but I can’t help but think: At one hour in length, this special represents more than 10 percent of the total content of the original British Office.
NBC, 9:00 p.m. ET
SERIES FINALE: And here’s the last episode – the one that takes place after public TV airs the documentary about paper company Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch. What’s going to happen next? And last? Last week, even Dwight (Rainn Wilson) was handed a big dose of happiness – so anything’s possible.
CBS, 9:01 p.m. ET
SEASON FINALE: In this two-hour season finale, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) confronts his shocking new discovery – that the love of his life, Irene Adler, has not been dead for the past 18 months, but held prisoner. And while he pursues her in the present, we get to meet her through flashbacks, with Irene played by actress Natalie Dormer. If her face seems familiar, this may be why: she plays Margaery Tyrell on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
