BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Various Networks, 2:40 a.m. ET

Of today’s all-day alternative coverage on cable networks, the biggest draw, arguably, is the gold medal final in men’s figure skating, televised live by NBCSN between 7 and 10:10 p.m. ET. That’s in addition to all other coverage on USA, CNBC, and on NBC’s own Olympics website. Oh, and on NBC the broadcast network as well. (Details follow.)

Amazon Prime Video, 3:00 a.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: It’s Season 4 for this comfortably slick and clever Amazon series, which stars Lola Kirke as Hailey, an oboe player who has worked her way into the ensemble of a major New York orchestra. Gael Garcia Bernal plays Rodrigo, the temperamental, talented conductor, and this season he and Hailey have escalated their relationship to the point where he proclaims himself as her “boyfriend.” But there are other elements at play, and other players, too. I especially like watching three of this series’ supporting cast members: Malcolm McDowell, Bernadette Peters, and Saffron Burrows. For a full review, see David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower.

NBC, 3:00 p.m. ET

The men’s gold medal final in figure skating, covered by NBCSN as well, makes it to tonight’s NBC prime-time coverage at 8 p.m. ET, because it’s scheduled to be performed in South Korea when NBC can present parts of it on live TV.  Also live in prime time, at least on the schedule: the Super G gold medal final in women’s alpine skiing.

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

This 1939 James Stewart classic is a film I always show to my Film History and Appreciation class. My college students at Rowan are amazed by how cynically it presents both politics and the press in a movie so old – and they’re also very moved by the eventual optimism of the film, which insists that one noble and well-intentioned person, no matter how outnumbered and outflanked, can indeed make a difference. After this particularly ghastly week, Frank Capra’s directorial drama should be seen by everyone – and thanks to tonight’s prime-time TCM showing, it can. A special salute to Jean Arthur as Saunders, whose performance as Smith’s initially cynical, eventually supportive assistant will melt your heart.

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

Unless Bill Maher adjusts his guest list tonight in reaction to Wednesday’s tragic mass school shooting in Florida, his guests tonight – who doubtlessly will be focusing intently on the issue of gun control – include Anna Deavere Smith, Fran Lebowitz, Salman Rushdie, and Vincente Fox, former president of Mexico. So given this week, and that last guest, immigration reform probably will be a hot topic as well...

HBO, 11:30 p.m. ET

Tonight, Phoebe Robinson from I Love Dick and Jessica Williams from The Daily Show welcome Tituss Burgess from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

A Secrets Tides Punta Cana Airport Transfer allows travelers to begin their vacation with comfort, convenience, and confidence. After arriving at Punta Cana International Airport, the last thing most visitors want is to spend time searching for transportation or waiting in long lines. Planning airport transportation before departure helps make the arrival process much easier and allows guests to continue directly to the resort.

Secrets Tides Punta Cana is situated in the beautiful Uvero Alto region, approximately 27 miles (44 kilometers) from Punta Cana International Airport. Depending on traffic, the drive usually takes around 45 to 55 minutes. Choosing a Secrets Tides Punta Cana Airport Transfer provides a direct route to the resort, avoiding unnecessary stops that are common with shared transportation.
