BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

CBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

In this week’s episode, crucial support is withdrawn from one of the gang. No, it’s not the military support for the invention on which they’ve been working all season. It’s the financial support for Koothrappali, whose father has decided enough is enough, and cuts him off from receiving money from home. The episode is titled “The Allowance Evaporation.”

CW, 9:00 p.m. ET

This fourth episode of the CW series Riverdale, based on the long-lasting Archie comics, is reviewed by a young reviewer, Chelsea Duff, in our latest Guest Contributor blog on TVWW. Meanwhile, the plot here keeps thickening, and tonight, the parents get some significant screen time, including Archie’s dad, played by former Beverly Hills, 90210 teen hearthhrob Luke Perry.

CNN, 10:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s premiere installment of this new CNN documentary miniseries scored very high ratings, and expect the trend to continue with tonight’s second installment, titled “The Funnier Sex.” It’s referring to a gender, not an activity – and among the female comics profiled is that world-class funny woman, Carol Burnett.

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

In this week’s episode, Chip (Zach Galifianakis) reunites with his twin brother, and his mom (played by Louie Anderson), in Bakersfield, for a memorable family reunion. It’s especially memorable, to me, because the twin boys are named Chip and Dale.

IFC, 10:00 p.m. ET

In tonight’s new installment, Kyle MacLachlan, playing the mayor of Portlandia, leads a protest movement in which his city will sever its association with the established government. It may not be an easy task, but you know what they say: “If at first you don’t secede…”
