BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: Part 2 of 2. In last night’s two-hour Part 1 of this show’s Season 13 premiere, American Idol already put its best foot forward, replacing last year’s ego-driven angst (Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey) with Harry Connick Jr.’s playful self-deprecation. Both he and returning judge Keith Urban joke about how most contestants focus only on Jennifer Lopez, returning for a second Idol judging stint – but this trio seems to get along nicely, with Connick already the most likely to deliver bad news honestly. Tonight’s edition finishes the audition round from Austin, TX, and moves on to San Francisco.

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guest star is Walton Goggins, the Justified star who already has proven his willingness to take daring chances in his knockout recurring guest role on Sons of Anarchy. On this NBC sitcom, he plays a man with a plan – a plan that just might shake up the status quo of this loose-knit, and just plain loose, community-college group.

ESPN, 9:00 p.m. ET

Hard to believe, but it was 20 years ago this week that the build-up to the Olympic Games made front-page headlines worldwide – because one U.SA. ice skater, Nancy Kerrigan, was attacked after practice, her right knee clubbed by an unknown assailant. The attack, it soon was uncovered, was a plot by Jeff Gillooly and his friends to incapacitate Kerrigan – because she was seen by them as the main competition for another U.S. skater, Tonya Harding, who was Gillooly’s ex-wife. This new 30 for 30 documentary, two decades later, examines just who was in on the conspiracy, its short- and long-range impact, and what happened to the skaters after the Olympics were over.

NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

After calling an end to her impending marriage, Amber (Mae Whitman) runs away from home – and that’s only one of the dramatic twists and turns in tonight’s episode.

IFC, 10:00 p.m. ET

In this week’s episode of this multi-part miniseries spoof, Cynthia (Kristen Wiig) becomes jealous because Devon (Tobey Maguire), having returned from the war, has brought with him the new love of his life: Lady Anne. Cynthia greets Lady Anne stiffly, but not as stiffly as Lady Anne greets Cynthia. That’s because Lady Anne, as few people seem to notice, is a mannequin.
