BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

ESPN, 9:00 a.m. ET

South Africa’s Kevin Anderson is looking to win his first grand slam major if he emerges as the victor from today’s 2018 Wimbledon final –but his opponent, Novak Djokovic, has won plenty of titles already. Not for nearly two years, though, as he came back after elbow surgery. And to get here, he had to survive a brutal five-hour match, played over two days, against long-time rival Rafael Nadal. Anderson may have the freshness, and the desire of an athlete chasing a first major, but Djokovic has the experience, and a history of hanging in and hanging tough.

Fox, 11:00 a.m. ET

It’s all come down to this. Croatia is looking to win its first World Cup, while France, which won 20 years ago, is seeking its second. Croatia is ranked No. 20 in FIFA’s international rankings, making it the lowest-ranked team to ever play in a World Cup final. But France has its claims to history, too: If France’s dynamic forward Kylian Mbappé  (pictured) scores a goal today (he scored two in the game against Argentina alone), he’ll be the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since the iconic Pele… in 1958, 60 years ago.

Syfy, USA, 2:18 p.m. ET

The final films in this weekend marathon of Harry Potter films are shown tonight, simulcast on Syfy and USA. The magical mystical tour resumes at 2:18 p.m. ET with 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, followed at 5:15 ET and 8 ET, respectively, by the two parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: 2009’s Part 1 and 2010’s Part 2 (pictured). My, how they’ve grown…

CNN, 9:00 p.m. ET

In tonight’s second installment of The 2000s, we get Mission Accomplished, the title of which is derived from the George W. Bush administration’s overly optimistic celebration after its initial phase of the Iraq war in 2003. Famous photo. Famous faux pas.

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

Part 2. Amy Adams continues to shine, and smolder, as the sullen central character of this morose murder mystery. In these first three hours, especially, the images shown fleetingly by director Jean-Marc Vallee accrue additional meaning with each exposure – so stay with Sharp Objects, and the many things haunting Adams’ character will become increasingly clear.

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s boardroom showdown turned out to be a bloodbath, and many members of Logan’s immediate family were among the victims. But Logan (Brian Cox), for now, remains not only standing… but powerful. And, needless to say, vengeful.
