AMC, 6:00 p.m. ET

As a multi-day, every-episode warm-up to Sunday’s finale of Mad Men, AMC is presenting a mega-marathon, showing every episode of the series, in order, beginning with the Season 1 premiere episode, televised tonight at 6 p.m. ET. Don Draper keeps running – and, as in the opening credits, falling – all the way to Sunday’s 10 p.m. ET wrap-up.

THE MIDDLE

ABC, 8:00 p.m. ET

It’s not quite Boyhood, but on this series, we’ve seen the kids grow quite a lot – and that includes Sue (Eden Sher), who, over the years, has lost her braces and gained her confidence. Tonight, in the Season 6 finale of The Middle, she graduates from high school.

AMERICAN IDOL

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

SEASON FINALE: The news is out that next year will be the last for American Idol. That gives this penultimate Idol crowning a bit more oomph – but even with a troika of judges who get along, this series basically stayed a bit too long at the mic. And it didn’t help that this year, when it got to the Final Three, one of the most deserving of them, Jax Cole (center, flanked by surviving finalists Clark Beckham and Nick Fradiani), was sent packing. MODERN FAMILY

ABC, 9:00 p.m. ET

Alex (Ariel Winter) has been given lots of screen attention at the end of this season, as she nears high school graduation. And tonight, she gets the spotlight once again, as the unwilling participant of her family’s “Skip Day” tradition.

LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN

CBS, 11:35 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guests, one week before Letterman signs off for good: Julia Roberts and Ryan Adams.
