Fox Sports 1, 8:00 p.m. ET
The Houston Astros host the New York Yankees in today’s only postseason contest, Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. The Yankees won yesterday’s Game 1 by a score of 7-0, which means that if the Astros score a run in tonight’s game, it’ll be their first in this 2019 series against the Yankees.
CW, 8:00 p.m. ET
Ruby Rose continues to star in the title role, but as yet, she’s merely impersonating the missing Batman rather than adopting her own “official” alter ego persona. But in the meantime, she’s facing a sibling-rivalry threat by opposing a colorful villain, a girl from her past, now known as Alice – as in Wonderland.
Showtime, 8:00 p.m. ET
John Heilemann was on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher two days ago – so we know he was on the West Coast on Friday. Will a field report for The Circus reflect his travel schedule? My guess: yes.
AMC, 9:00 p.m. ET
Last week’s season premiere brought us seaside, to a training exercise somewhere between medieval tactics and a blood-spatter videogame. The zombies being dispatched weren’t exactly frightening – but the scares will follow, in the future and in flashback. Tonight, we go back in time, and in the Walking Dead narrative, to learn the origins of both Alpha and Beta.
HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET
SEASON FINALE: The Season 2 finale of Succession gathers the family on a yacht – but it’s anything but a pleasure cruise. And since all season has led to what will or won’t happen tonight with the family corporation, the fallout ought to be severe.
Discovery, 10:00 p.m. ET
SERIES PREMIERE: This six-part nonfiction series comes from co-executive producers Steven Spielberg and documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney. Its object? To analyze hate, and, therefore, to understand and begin to end it. Good luck with that. Really.
Ovation, 10:00 p.m. ET
SEASON PREMIERE: James Lipton is no longer the host of this series. He stepped down when it ended its run on Bravo last year, and now Inside the Actors Studio is back, hosted by a series of guest hosts, as it begins Season 23. The opening entry has Alec Baldwin as interviewer, hosting Henry Winkler.
Showtime, 10:00 p.m. ET
It’s time to party hearty – and jockey for power positions – as Orlando and its FAM pyramid-scheme home-product sales members gear up for what they call “Wham Bam Thank You FAM 37thAnniversary Jam.”
USA, 10:00 p.m. ET
Last week, Mr. Robot returned to television almost as a stealth mission – barely noticed or promoted. Yet written and directed by Sam Esmail, it was another strong outing, and a welcome return for the series which won Rami Malek an Emmy before his big-screen portrayal of Freddie Mercury won him an Oscar. In last week’s premiere, it took 20 minutes before Malek showed up… but so much happened to other characters, it was worth the wait.
HBO, 11:05 p.m. ET
Again, just a reminder: Whenever this show is on, I’m watching it. And I recommend the same.
