What’s a sports network to do, when live sports aren’t being played to be televised? One thing is to replay old sports matchups, and the other is to expand the definition of “sports.” Today, ESPN does both, by repeating seven hours’ worth of old Scripps National Spelling Bees. The alleged action begins at noon ET, with a replay of that nail-biter from 1997 (pictured). That’s followed by the national spelling bees from 2004 and, even more recently, from 2008. If you watch the first one, keep this in mind: Every young person you see spelling words on stage is now 23 years older – so imagine what kind of jobs they’re working at now.
NBC, 7:00 p.m. ET
For Easter Sunday, NBC is repeating its 2018 live musical TV production of Jesus Christ Superstar, starring John Legend, and featuring Sara Bareilles and Alice Cooper. So yes, it’s a big night for network TV: Jesus Christ is returning, on NBC!
BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET
SEASON PREMIERE: Every year,
Killing Eve gets a new showrunner, but manages to maintain a consistent tone. That’s due largely to its leading ladies, Sandra Oh and especially Jodie Comer, who plays the chameleonic Russian assassin. Every year, with every murder Villanelle commits and every award Comer wins for playing her (she’s fresh off an Emmy Award), her character becomes even more unhinged and entertaining. Season 3 begins with all the principals separated and in hiding – but not for long. And pretty soon, very memorably, Villanelle takes aim as a killer klown…

Last week, we found just how insidiously Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) had spread herself into the outside world, in her plan to conquer and destroy the “outside” world. This week, that leaves many questions to ponder, including whether the “outside” world really is outside the park – and whether the plural form of Dolores should be Doloreses – or Dolori.
Showtime, 9:03 p.m. ET
It seemed, in last week’s episode, that Carrie was going to save the day again, by finding and acquiring the voice and instrument reading recorder black box from the helicopter crash that killed the U.S. President. But at the last second, she was betrayed by her Russian collaborator, injected with a drug that knocked her out, and carted out, along with the black box. As a result, Carrie is in danger, Saul is in high intensity mode trying to find her and the crucial information she had located, and the United States, without that info, is on the brink of war with Pakistan. Counting tonight, there are three episodes of Homeland remaining – so nothing has to end well, for any character on the show. Or, for that matter, for any country.
HBO, 10:35 p.m. ET
SERIES PREMIERE: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the talented writer-actress who has hit nothing but home runs by starring in and writing Fleabag, and creating Killing Eve, now extends her streak by being an executive producer, and a supporting player, on this new HBO series, which stars Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson as former lovers who cash in on a long-dormant promise to reunite and run off together. He’s from the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises, she’s from Godless, The Walking Dead, and Nurse Jackie, and their co-stars include Archie Panjabi from The Good Wife and, of course, the aforementioned Waller-Bridge.
HBO, 11:10 p.m. ET
According to HBO and the latest listings, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is scheduled to present another new home-based edition tonight. That seems surprising, given that it’s a holiday weekend – but what else does Oliver have to do, really?
