In Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History was opened on Sept. 23, which is when this inaugural celebration special, filmed at the nearby Kennedy Center, was recorded. Tonight, a two-hour special built around that celebration, and a tour of the new African American museum, will be presented by ABC. I don’t know if this new African American museum will include an exhibit on the new missing hyphen in African American – but we’ll see. Common and Usher are among the performers attending.

KARAOKE SHOWDOWN

Spike, 10:32 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: This is not a recommendation. It’s just a note, noting that Spike TV, which already has launched one TV series based on a late-night talk show segment (Lip Sync Battle, which comes from Jimmy Fallon’s shows and precedes Karaoke Showdown as its lead-in). Tonight it presents a less official one, which basically rips off and adapts the idea of James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke segments. I haven’t seen this yet, but I have no reason, in this case, not to stick with the original article, on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden and on YouTube. Craig Robinson hosts.
