BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

Stretching out every ratings point and hour it can from this hit series, NBC tonight presents a highlights package of the Voice season thus far. Cynical? Yes. Worth watching? Yes, because there’s so much talent competing this cycle – and because Alicia Keys has emerged, this year, as the Voice judge with the most heart, and, at times, with the most ruthlessly effective tactics for luring the teammates she most desires.

CW, 9:00 p.m. ET

The clever conceit of this undead procedural is that Rose McIver’s Liv, a “functioning zombie” who works as a morgue assistant in a crime lab, eats brains of murder victims to absorb insights about their final memories, unavoidably also absorbing, temporarily, the personalities of the deceased. Tonight’s “zombie meal” is a literal doubleheader, with Liv and a fellow functioning zombie eating separate helpings of related murder victims. Liv eats the brains of a middle-aged dad, and Robert Buckley’s Major ingests the brains of the father’s angsty teen daughter. Their subsequent interaction is a lot of fun to watch.

PBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

Part 2 of 3. This nonfiction miniseries continues, with the emphasis this time on the impact of war itself, especially back home, as the relatives of the soldiers, and the rest of the nation, learn of the unprecedented brutality and carnage of this new, mechanized war, with its aircraft and, yes, chemical weapons. Check local listings.

ABC, 10:00 p.m. ET

The alternate reality world that is part of the computerized matrix known as “the Framework” has absorbed virtually all the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., only two of which are aware of the illusion, and of their true identities. To everyone else hooked into the Framework, they’re living in an alternate world where they work for the evil HYDRA organization, which is fully in control. And it’s worth noting that the evil organization’s control, this week, extends even to ABC’s on-air promos, which take the usual Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. promo logo and give it a very sinister… twist.

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

The handlers of Philip and Elizabeth, Frank Langella’s Gabriel and Margo Martindale’s Claudia, decide tonight what to do with the news that Philip’s long-estranged, now-grown son from a former relationship has smuggled himself into the United States, and is trying desperately to track down his father. Do they tell Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell), who have their own teen children together in America? Do they tell only Philip? Only Elizabeth? Or do they just kill the young man, rather than complicate things?
