BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

ESPN, 9:00 a.m. ET

Serena Williams won the women’s final yesterday, in an exciting display of fierce tennis against Angelique Kerber, who doubtless earned lots of fans with her persistent efforts. Today, the men’s final is between Andy Murray, the Scot who is the home-crowd favorite and in search of his second Wimbledon title, and Milos Ranoic, who beat Roger Federer in the semis (in a thrillingly competitive five-set match) to get here, and who counts among his coaches John McEnroe. I’ll be watching – and rooting for Murray.

ESPN, 2:30 p.m. ET

Both Wimbledon and the Euro finals this year have home-crowd favorites. With Euro 2016, played in Paris, it’s France, who plays Portugal for the title. France has won this contest twice before, in 1984 and 2000, but this would be its first victory of the current century. As for Portugal? Has never won – yet.

Showtime, 8:00 p.m. ET

SERIES RETURN: After an understandable but regrettable hiatus, this political documentary series returns for the second half of its impressive first season… and just in time to present the buildup to the parties’ respective national conventions. The three-man team reporting this particular Circus has been entertaining to watch – and more important, has been informative. Here we go again…

BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET

Tonight is Episode 2 of this stunningly photographed new nature series, narrated by Sir David Attenborough and focusing exclusively on fight-or-flight, win-or-lose duels in the natural world. Tonight’s episode focuses on hunts in very cold climates.

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: Based on the British series Criminal Justice, this new eight-part series, starring John Turturro as a rumpled lawyer who takes on the case of a young man accused of murder, is magnificent. And excitingly nuanced and unpredictable, to boot. For my full review on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross, visit the Fresh Air website. For another full review, see David Hinckley’s All Along the Watchtower.
