Soundtrack songs and albums are making movies matter this year, with Kendrick Lamar contending for Black Panther and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from A Star is Born. And after years of hip-hop being slighted in major categories, there’s a boycott this year, with Lamar, Drake, and Childish Gambino (Donald Glover’s musical alter ego) refusing to perform on the live TV show. Ariana Grande is refusing to appear as well, citing creative differences with the show’s longtime executive producer, Ken Ehrlich. So who is on tonight’s special? Alicia Keys hosts. Cardi B, Janelle Monaé and Miley Cyrus are all scheduled to perform live, as is a much more tenured female singer: Diana Ross, celebrating her 75th birthday.
