BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Destination America, 4:00 p.m. ET

Some people, looking for worthy TV alternatives today and tonight, might opt for The Story of the Jews with Simon Schama on PBS (8 p.m. ET), a new Justified on FX (10 p.m. ET), or the Season 2 premiere of Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central (10:30 p.m. ET). But today, of all days, the creature cognoscenti should be heading to Destination America, the little-known, little-watched cable network that today presents a mini-marathon of its Season 2 Mosters & Mysteries in America episodes. Where else on TV, I ask you, can you see shows devoted to Civil war zombie soldiers, Batsquatch, and, last and perhaps least, the infamous Pukwudgie?

E!, 5:30 p.m. ET

One of the TVWW slogans, at least unofficially, is “No Kardashians,” but every once in a while – once a year, to be exact – an episode is televised that is so Kwintessentially Kardashian that it cannot be ignored. Today, almost like Klockwork, that day arrives. Again.

Discovery, 9:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s new episode of Amish Mafia includes a serious report about a very serious domestic abuse case – even if it’s a case that calls into question the entire cloistered premise of this Discovery Channel series about Amish “enforcers.” Tonight, those enforcers saddle up to shut down an Amish strip club. And that, in itself, raises all sorts of questions? What do they strip? Their collars and bonnets? And instead of stripper poles, do they gyrate around butter churns? Only by tuning in can you get answers to such questions – and that simple sentence tells you all you need to know.

AMC, 10:00 p.m. ET

This question may seem obvious, perhaps even rhetorical, but I’ll ask it anyway: What could possibly be more interesting than a TV show about arm wrestlers?

Discovery Fitness, 10:00 p.m. ET

This is a Discovery Fitness one-hour special, examining the medical case of Wesley Warren Jr., a 49-year-old Las Vegas resident with scrotal lymphedema. And if you’re asking yourself, “Is this really the show I want to watch to relax after a hard day of work?,” just remind yourself to be grateful it’s on this network, and not on E! – where, most likely, it would be a series, not a special. Personally, I’d suggest a Comedy Central sequel called The Woman with the 200-Lb. Sphincter. Then, when you tune in out of morbid curiosity, you find out the title refers to her husband…
