BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

CBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

This may sound bizarre, but tonight Supergirl ventures into the Bizarro world of alternate super-beings – or, at least, brings one to National City, where a Supergirl counterpart is unleashed to do battle against the actual article.

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

Here’s the new X-Files episode that you shouldn’t miss: It’s written by Darin Morgan, who wrote some of the strangest and best episodes of the old X-Files series. And that’s true of the new series as well. Based on the three episodes provided for preview, it’s the best of the bunch. The title should let you know it’s another playful entry in the canon: It’s called “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster,” and it’s loaded with extras to delight long-time fans of the TV horror genre.

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

This series returned with a new episode last week, on a new night, with so little advance notice and promotion that it slipped by me entirely. Not this time. The Graham Norton Show, still my favorite current talk show, is now shown on BBC America on Monday nights, so adjust your DVRs and viewing schedules accordingly. Tonight’s guests include Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Zeta Jones and (no relation – I think) Toby Jones.

Syfy, 10:00 p.m. ET

SERIES RETURN: The final season of this sci-fi series picks up for its second and final half, with Bo fighting an ancient evil, with the usual world as we know it in the balance. The terrain is familiar, but the characters on this show are unusually feisty – starting with the protagonist Bo. Did I mention she’s a succubus?

TCM, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight the A&E Networks continue with their miniseries version of War & Peace – but if you’re in the mood for an actual epic costume drama, go here instead. This 1962 David Lean movie, starring Peter O’Toole as a British officer who fights alongside Arab soldiers in what eventually would be known as WWI, is spectacularly beautiful, sweeping in both scope and photography. And as a modern-day bonus, the lands where the action is set have since been the scene of a whole series of Middle Eastern events.
