My default mode, in the days after Thanksgiving, is to moan about the appearance of Christmas TV specials so soon after one holiday, and so far in advance of another. But when it comes to a rebroadcast of one of the first Christmas specials ever made – back in 1964, with Burl Ives as the voice of Sam the Snowman.

This 1992 movie is one of Rudy Giuliani’s favorite films, apparently – and he quoted it at length to make a point, or at least try to make one, when arguing election fraud in the Pennsylvania state court. So this is the first time this classic comedy has been televised since then, so tune in and watch to see how many fingers Vinny holds up …

MINISERIES FINALE: This 14-part documentary series has been marvelous to watch, and extremely instructive. And tonight it ends, with a final documentary installment followed by one last night of international films directed by woman worldwide. And this Women Make Film TCM multi-month celebration may have saved the weirdest for last: At 6 a.m. ET Wednesday, it’s the 2015 film The Lure, directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska, in which a local Polish cabaret hires a pair of enchanting new singers – who happen to be mermaids.

In last week’s Episode 2 of Big Spy, the trucker who was abducting young women for his sexual slavery ring was surprised when one of his three abductees revealed herself to be something different than what the trucker had presumed. Yet managed to live through, and past, the revelatory experience.
