BEST BETS FOR THURSDAY, MAY 08, 2008

SURVIVOR: MICRONESIA

CBS, 8 p.m. ET

Even though the “Fans vs. Favorites” part of this game was a big yawn, the contest itself has been full of entertaining, unexpected or just plain odd twists. More players (three) have left the game because on injury than in any other edition. Immunity idols, both real and fake, have been played. And last week, Amanda staved off certain elimination, and blind-sided enemy Alexis, by playing a new immunity idol which no one suspected she had found. She couldn’t help smiling widely – and at home, neither could I.

LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER: "CAMELOT"

PBS, 8 p.m. ET

(Check local listings)

This semi-staged concert performance of the 1960 Lerner-Loewe Broadway musical stars Gabriel Byrne, last seen as the therapist on In Treatment, along with Marin Mazzie, Christopher Lloyd and, this is not a misprint, Fran Drescher.

HEAR AND NOW

HBO, 8 p.m. ET

This documentary by Irene Taylor Brodsky chronicles the results of her deaf parents’ joint decision, at age 65, to get cochlear implants in hopes of enabling them to hear for the first time. It’s a sweet, honest, truly memorable film, definitely worth watching – and hearing. For more, see today’s BIANCULLI’S BLOG.

CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION

CBS, 9 p.m. ET

This is the conclusion of the bizarre experiment in which writers from Two and a Half Men and CSI traded scripts. Katey Sagal guest stars tonight as a sitcom diva murdered, with no shortage of suspects – and it’s not hard to read Men co-creator Chuck Lorre venting some of his past frustrations writing for Cybill. Or Roseanne. Or Grace Under Fire. As William Petersen’s Grissom says while holding a crime-scene rubber chicken: “Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.”

30 ROCK

NBC, 9:30 p.m. ET

This season finale has Jack moving to a new job – with the government – giving Alec Baldwin a chance to play opposite guest star Matthew Broderick. And play he does, delightfully. Meanwhile, Jane Krakowski gets more to do than usual, which is more good news, and Liz (Tina Fey) gets some very startling news.

LOST

ABC, 10 p.m. ET

Last week’s episode, I’m afraid, finally lost me. Not that I’m less of a fan of this show, or will begin missing episodes for the first time – but last week, I gave up trying to concoct a rational explanation for what’s happening, and where things are going. If Jack is bad, does that mean Ben is good? I’m not sure tonight’s episode, which spends time at both Jacob’s cabin and the freighter, will make things any clearer. But I’ll be watching, nonetheless.
