BEST BETS FOR DECEMBER 31, 2007

Agnes Morehead

TWILIGHT ZONE MARATHON

SCI FI, 8 a.m. ET

You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of... satellite and cable. Yes, for two days straight, Sci Fi Network turns itself over to Rod Serling's classic 1959-65 anthology series, including such iconic episodes as Agnes Moorehead being chased by tiny aliens. Imagine, if you will, a better way to spend the time if you're going to watch TV today. And tonight. And tomorrow. It's difficult to imagine.

Notarized

NOTARIZED: TOP 100 VIDEOS OF 2007

BET, 11 a.m. ET

Outside of early morning hours, it's tough to find actual videos on MTV and VH1 these days, and even BET is showing fewer of them than it used to. Today, however, BET presents a 12-hour end-of-year countdown of the Top 100 videos, as voted by visitors to its website. Not to play the race card, but don't expect, say, Ashlee Simpson to crack the list here. Thanks goodness.

Joshua Bell

LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER: NEW YEAR'S EVE CONCERT

PBS, 11 p.m. ET
(Check local listings)

Violinist Joshua Bell is the featured soloist in this year's New Year's Eve concert, which has Renee Fleming as host, Lorin Maazel as conductor, and the New York Philharmonic. Music on the program this year includes Schubert's "Ave Maria."

Quiz Show

QUIZ SHOW

Flix, 8 p.m. ET

This 1994 movie, directed by Robert Redford, stars John Turturro and Ralph Fiennes as contestants caught up in what would come to be known as the Quiz Show Scandals of the 1950s. Like the producers of those shows, Redford is guilty of a little manipulation here when it comes to facts and honesty - but it's a very commendable and engrossing drama nonetheless.

NY Rocking Eve

DICK CLARK'S NEW YEAR'S ROCKIN' EVE 2008

ABC, 11:30 p.m. ET

This is the 100th anniversary of the ball drop in Times Square - and even if there is a brand new, energy-efficient ball with 9,576 LED lights being dropped this year, it's still a tradition. And Dick Clark, once the new kid on this Times Square block (there was a time, kids, when "Rockin' Eve" was a network's hopelessly transparent titular lure to attract younger viewers), is scheduled to make another post-stroke appearance. It's Ryan Seacrest who will be carrying the ball, so to speak, with Clark in New York, while singer Fergie performs, and hosts, from Hollywood.

The Honeymooners

THE HONEYMOONERS

WPIX-CW11, Midnight ET

If you're local in New York, or if your cable or satellite network carries WPIX, here's a TV tradition that began on New Year's Eve in 1996, and started as an annual treat 20 years before that: a Honeymooners marathon. Baby, it's the greatest. Still.
