HBO, 8:00 p.m. ET
In HBO’s Entourage, one of the running gags of that movie came when the show’s hot young movie star was cast as the lead in a superhero action film – but it was Aquaman. Cut to years later, and Hollywood actually got around to making an actual movie based on that waterlogged DC Comics character. And this is it: Made in 2018, it stars Jason Momoa from Game of Thrones – another HBO series, by the way – as the title character. Amber Heard co-stars as Mera, the sea queen. Tune in, and you can sea queen, too.
IFC, 8:00 p.m. ET
This Mike Judge comedy is 20 years old now. Seems almost impossible, but it is – and this live-action office comedy, from the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head, has become a touchstone for the current generation. Ron Livingston, Stephen Root, Jennifer Aniston and John C. McGinley star in this mutinous tale of life within the cubicle world – and Gary Cole, formerly known as a serious dramatic actor, carved out a whole new career by playing the boss, Bill Lumbergh (pictured).
OWN, 8:00 p.m. ET
To honor the memory and note the passing of celebrated writer Toni Morrison, who died Monday at age 88, Oprah Winfrey is clearing prime time on her own network – her OWN network – to repeat this program, a 2000 edition in which she interviewed the author who influenced Winfrey so greatly.
TCM, 10:00 p.m. ET
Steven Spielberg, Tony Kushner and Stephen Sondheim currently are collaborating on a new movie version of West Side Story – which makes it even more interesting to revisit the original. This classic version was filmed in 1961 – when New York was smaller and grittier, when Sharks were Sharks and Jets were Jets, and when the neighborhood dances couldn’t be more… colorful.
