Unless breaking news knocks it off the schedule, this 2014 documentary from CNN Films will be presented in prime time, following the country singer as he battles with Alzheimer’s and attempts to assemble a final tour and album while he’s still capable. It’s heartbreaking and inspirational in equal doses – and the music, old and new, is beautiful.

Back in 2016, I wrote a piece for this site comparing television writer and producer Kenya Barris to the great Norman Lear. At the time, Barris' black-ish (on ABC) was addressing some of the most controversial issues...

There are plenty of great books out there, still waiting to be movies or TV series. Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham seemed to be a long shot...

SERIES PREMIERE: This new animated series comes from Ellen Degeneres’ production company, and expands Dr. Seuss’ unforgettably playful 1960 children’s picture book into 13 episodes. Michael Douglas provides the voice of the reluctant sampler of the title dish, and Adam Devine plays the insistently enthusiastic Sam-I-Am. Other voices are provided by Eddie Izzard, Diane Keaton, Tracy Morgan and John Turturro, which just goes to show how many fans this classic book has amassed ove

SNEAK PREVIEW: Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, launches next Tuesday, and tonight the company is pushing its wares by providing a sneak preview of one of its series: a weekly version, with a new cast and story, of its High School Musical franchise. It’s the least entertaining show I sampled of the new Disney+ fare, so don’t let this discourage you from considering subscribing to the new service. Presumably, the other shows will be featured in ads or excerpts

Lincoln Center Theatre’s 2015 version of this Rodgers & Hammerstein classic musical won the Tony for Best Revival. It’s directed by Bartlett Sher, who also directed its leading lady, the wonderful Kelli O’Hara, in an earlier revival of South Pacific. This TV production was taped when the company traveled to London’s West End, with Ken Watanabe, as the King of Siam, continuing his co-starring role. Quick facts: The King & I premiered on Broadway

Last Thursday was Halloween, and the TV was full of old movie tricks and treat. A week later, most of the decorations are packed away (save for TVWW assistant editor Linda Donovan’s down-the-street neighbor), and tonight’s TV offers only one obvious, marvelous treat. Not surprisingly, it’s another new episode of NBC’s The Good Place – and boy, do I love this show. And after playing it close to the vest for most of the first season of this sitcom, Ted Danso
