SERIES PREMIERE: Prisoners of War is an Israeli series, shown in Israel in 2010 and 2012, that was (very freely) adapted into the still-running Showtime series Homeland. This newer Israeli-made series, billed as a Netflix original and produced in 2015, is no less timely because of its delay in arriving here. It looks at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from both sides: from the point of view of the commander of an Israeli special forces unit, and from one of his main targets, a Palestinian Hamas

Why this special, and why now? This ABC special looks at recently revealed information about the death of music superstar Michael Jackson, so that’s the overall “why.” But why now, since the anniversary of Jackson’s 2009 death is June 25, just over a month away? No idea.

Thursday nights on TCM this month belong to Marlene Dietrich, and tonight’s lineup is full of her later-career curiosities, including, at 10:15 p.m. ET, her unlikely turn as a saloon singer in a 1942 Western opposite John Wayne. But the one to make a special effort to catch arrives at midnight ET, when TCM presents her 1944 star turn in Kismet, in which she performs one provocative dance number adorned in very leggy, very striking gold body paint. Take that, Goldfinger!

This is Game 5 in the postseason NBA West conference series. The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets have split the first four games, so it’s now a best-of-three contest to see which team gets to advance to this year’s NBA Finals. And for this Game 5, Houston enjoys home-court advantage.

In both the East and the West, this year’s conference championships have emerged as actual, exciting contests. Four games into each series, and teams are tied 2-2. In the East, where Game 5 is played tonight in Boston, the Celtics enjoyed an early and commanding two-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers, only to have the Cavs take two games straight in its own city. Home-court advantage gives the edge tonight back to Boston – but with momentum on the side of the Cavs, who knows?

SEASON FINALE: What happens in tonight’s season finale episode is less important, in the long run, than this series’ long run itself. This is the Season 19 finale for Special Victims Unit, which means that, like CBS’s NCIS, a 15-season spinoff from JAG, this long-running Law & Order spinoff has enjoyed an unusually long and popular existence. In fact, when it completes 20 seasons at the end of next year, it’ll match the dauntingly durable record set by the mother ship

The question asked tonight on NOVA Wonders is “Can We Make Life?” The answer, in my case, is “Yes, at least twice, at least as a co-conspirator.” Which is timely to point out, I argue, with Father’s Day less than a month away, I’d add “Hint, hint,” but my kids don’t read my website anyway. Do you, my children? Call me before midnight tonight, if you read this, Kris and Mark, and I’ll send you $50. (Unless you contact them and rat me out

This is the penultimate episode of The Americans, and three powerful story threads, just in time, are becoming intertwined like DNA strands. Will Philip and Elizabeth be working together, or at odds, in approaching the impending summit between the U.S. and U.S.S.R.? Will their daughter, Paige, commit fully to the spy game, or be dissuaded just in time? And will their neighbor, FBI agent Stan, realize at last what he’s begun to suspect strongly: That Elizabeth and Philip, his closest of fri
