There were plenty more upsets in yesterday’s round of 16 games, but the astounding finish to the late game between No. 6 seed Texas and No. 11 seed Northern Iowa beat anything else this year – and maybe any other. Texas ties the game with a layup with less than three seconds left, and Northern Iowa, after a quick in-bounds pass to UNI’s Paul Jesperson, watched time run out, and the buzzer sound, just after Jesperson launched a Hail Mary shot from beyond half court. It floated f

If you liked the original Pitch Perfect movie, or watch some of the singing competition shows on TV right now, this 2015 sequel is a perfectly acceptable, and enjoyable, Saturday night TV diversion. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson reprise their roles as free-spirit a cappella singers.

This 1963 movie has a great cast, a great story, and is based on fact, so may not go where or how you might expect for a big-budget Hollywood WWII film. Steve McQueen is the epitome of a movie star here, and James Garner is right beside him, sometimes literally.

When you’re a brand new network like Viceland, the fledgling 24-hour operation from the creator of Vice, how do you get viewers to sample your channel for the first time? Original programming aimed at young people is part of it – but scheduling great movies at opportune times is part of it, too, and tonight Viceland serves up two in a row. First up: Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 anti-war comedy masterpiece, starring Peter Sellers in a variety of roles. The film’s full title is D

Another well-chosen Saturday movie presentation from the new Viceland network. This 1984 Rob Reiner comedy is a classic rockumentary spoof of a fictional heavy-metal act, and age has only improved it. On my scale of delightful and original comedies, score this one all the way up to 11. Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest star.

MOVIE PREMIERE: John Lee, not Tim Burton, is directing this new Pee-wee Herman movie, in which Paul Reubens steps back into the white loafers of his eerily ageless character from the classic CBS children’s series, and from Burton’s equally classic 1985 film, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. This time around, the adventures and visuals aren’t quite so antic or inventive, but they’re pleasant enough – and there’s an oddly effective odd-couple feel to the screen bu

SEASON PREMIERE: Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil is available for streaming beginning today on Netflix. Season 1 was considered fairly dark, as comic-book adaptations go, until Netflix unveiled its next entry in its Marvel TV canon, Marvel’s Jessica Jones. That redefined dark – but also was set in the same Hell’s Kitchen environment as Daredevil, so we’ll see what happens this season. Two things we know happen: new recurring guest stars Jon Bernthal and Elodie Yung (

In the first day of full-schedule first-round play, No. 12 seed Yale beat No. 5 seed Baylor, securing the first tournament win in Yale’s history. And in double overtime, another No. 12 seed, the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans, knocked off another No. 5 seed, Purdue. And that was just day one. Sixteen more games are played today, spread across four networks: CBS beginning at noon ET, TruTV beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET, TNT beginning at 1:30, and TBS beginning at 2.
