Fox’s Grease Live! this Sunday isn’t quite any of the things it’s nominally selling. That’s not a dismissal or a prejudgment. It just means viewers should assess it by what it’s really aiming to be, which is bubbly and fizzy fun...

It was a documentary I had every reason to look forward to... Himalayan Megaquake had some of the most compelling subject matter you will see in any documentary film this year. It was also unwatchable...

It’s nearing the end of the world as we know it in NBC’s 10-episode You, Me and the Apocalypse, including three well-known American TV stars in the far-flung ensemble cast...

SERIES PREMIERE: Part 2 of 2. This still is a warning, not a recommendation. This new series has lofty ambitions, but begins as a messy mélange of action, exposition and nonsense. Maybe it’ll level out once these legends actually begin their mission. Otherwise, this brand new CW comic-book series from the DC Comics universe soon will be Legends of yesterday.

In tonight’s second episode, Baskets (Zach Galifianakis) gets a protégé – another rodeo clown who, for some reason, looks to Baskets for inspiration and instruction. It seems unlikely, and ill-advised – but they do make for a good pair. And Baskets, when not doing his silent clown act, could use someone else to talk to.

One of tonight’s guests intrigues me, and it’s not the regular sort of show-biz guest. It’s Erin Brockovich – the real activist herself, not Julia Roberts, who played her in the movies.

This is a TV comedy series about high school, putting it in the same continuum as The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, Gidget, Square Pegs, My So-Called Life and The Wonder Years. It lasted only one season, but it’s a very important part of that continuum...
